Col. Bernard "Bernie" Rex Allman age 97, received his angel wings at his home surrounded by his family in Raleigh, NC on Good Friday, April 18, 2025. He was born February 20, 1928 in Wood County, WV. He was preceded in death by his parents Cora Belle and William Henry, his wife Cora Jane Lilly Allman, his brothers Hubert, Don, Dick, Ray and John, his sisters Thirza, Peg, Mae, Nona and Barbara. He is survived by his daughters Janet (Drew), Rexanne, Susan (John), his Grandchildren Stacey, Andrew, Jessica, Anna Leigh (Worth), Lauran (Chris), Jessica W., his Great Grandchildren Layla, Kayla, Emersyn, Macklin, and many other friends and family members. Bernie attended Parkersburg High School where he was an All-State football player and was inducted into the PHS Football Hall of Fame in 2023. He then attended NC State University on a full scholarship. He entered ROTC program and graduated an officer in the US Army. His military career included 22 years of service to his country. He was an aviator and flew fixed wing and helicopters. He served one tour in the Korean War, and two tours in the Vietnam War, where he received two Purple Heart Medals, two Bronze Medals and many other medals and citations. He completed his career at the Military District of Washington. Upon his retirement he moved to Raleigh, NC and started his business "Custom Engraving and Trophy, Inc.", which remains a successful business to this day. Bernie was an avid hunter (mostly turkey and quail), and loved to fish making a trip annually to the coast to fish with friends and family.
