More detail on this person: George David Boyd Obituary Mancelona, MI - George David Boyd, born October 30, 1942, passed away at home with family on June 23, 2025. George was born in Louisville, Kentucky and moved to Marion, Michigan at a young age. He was an army captain, serving two tours in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot. He was a decorated soldier receiving many honors including a purple heart. On May 26, 1972, he married June Powell (Cadillac). June and George were married for 53 wonderful years. They moved to Kalkaska where George worked at various natural gas plants as the facilities manager. Together, June and George raised a beautiful family of three sons. George worked hard to provide a good life for his family. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, snowmobiling, and camping with his children and grandchildren. Those that knew George would describe him as humble, wise, hardworking, loving, family-oriented, and a leader. He impacted many lives through his service to our country; as a son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather; as a manager in the natural gas plants; and as a friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. George is preceded in death by his mother Volo Boyd, father George Boyd, and sisters Mary Downing and Elizabeth Baughan. George is survived by his wife June Boyd; children David Boyd (wife Shelly Boyd), Gregory Boyd (wife Laura Boyd), and Johnathon Boyd (wife Jessamyn Boyd); grandchildren, Christopher Boyd, Bryce Boyd, Kaitlyn Boyd, Ryen Norman, Zackary Boyd, Madyson Boyd, Maisyn Boyd, Garrett Boyd, Anna Boyd, many bonus grandchildren and his caregiver Kaylee Courter. An informal celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Moose Lodge in Kalkaska (2210 M-66, Kalkaska) from 1:00-4:00pm. There will be a brief memorial service at 1:00pm, followed by the life celebration. Please join us for refreshments as we honor this wonderful man.
