More detail on this person: Frank Joseph Bernard (Frank Bernard) March 21, 1946 - April 26, 2017 Long Beach, Ca - A funeral service and celebration of the life of Frank Joseph Bernard will be held on May 7, 2017. Frank departed this life surrounded by his loving family on April 26, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer. After fighting the good fight, he kept the faith and is now home in heaven with Christ. Frank was born on March 21, 1946 in Youngstown, the son of Joseph E. Bernard and Theresa Bell Bernard. He was a 1964 graduate of Ursuline High School and received his B.S. in Psychology from Youngstown State University. He enlisted in the U.S. Army from 1968-1971, serving as a First Lt. and Chinook pilot, courageously completing two terms of duty. He was the recipient of two Distinguished Flying Cross medals and a Bronze Star for his bravery. After moving to California, Frank worked thirty years as a financial advisor. As a Certified Financial Planner, he worked many years with Smith Barney and most recently with Royal Bank of Canada. The financial interests of his clients were of utmost importance to Frank and as such he engendered a strong personal and professional relationship with his clients; a relationship based on integrity and trust. Frank was a devoted husband to the love of his life, Martha Bernard. They were married on July 14, 2001 and made their home in Long Beach, CA, with their sons, Matthew (Matt) and Nicholas (Nico). Frank will always be remembered for his unconditional love and selfless generosity. The two words that best describe Frank Bernard are integrity and selflessness. In addition to his wife and sons, he leaves his sisters, Marianne Bernard of Boardman; Margaret Lawrence of Barrington Hills IL; and Raina Bernard of Columbus. He also leave a niece, Lisa (Ish) Gajary and son, John Silas; nephews John (Karen) Lawrence and daughters Rachel and Giada; Brad (Mary) Lawrence and daughters Matilda and Julietta. He also leaves his beloved mother-in-law, Luz Fernandez de Lara. He will be terribly missed by his family and all who knew him. Frank will also be sadly missed by his two Pomeranians, Abby and Bernie. He was preceded in death by his parents. A funeral reception for family and friends will be held at 11:00 A.M. at Rose Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3888 workman Mill Rd., Whittier, CA.
