More detail on this person: Lieutenant Colonel Russell D Carmody, 50 RUSSELL D. CARMODY Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Friday, November 29, 1996 Lt. Col. (retired) Russell D. Carmody, 50, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 1996, in his home. During his distinguished career as an Army aviator, which spanned 27 years, he served as an attack helicopter pilot in Vietnam and a platoon commander in Korea. His next assignment was the 160th Task Force at Fort Campbell, Ky., where he served as company flight operations officer. Lt. Col. Carmody was transferred to Fort Bragg, where he served as the aviation project officer at the Special Warfare Center and finally as the air operations officer. Included among his many military awards and decorations are the Bronze Star, 27 Air Medals (one with V device), the Saudi Arabia/Kuwait Liberation Medal, the Legion of Merit and the Honorable Order of St. Michael. He is survived by his wife, Nadine Nokes Carmody; three daughters, Jaime Hosler of Annandale, Va., Colleen Gahan of Sacramento, Calif., and Jennifer Carmody of San Diego; his father, Martin Doan Carmody and his wife, Barbara A. Carmody of Virginia Beach; his mother, Kathryne Langley of San Jose, Calif.; a brother, Bert M. Carmody of Atlanta; a sister, Cathy Carmody of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Alexis, Jonathan and Samantha Hosler, all of Annandale. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the Fort Myer Chapel adjacent to Arlington National Cemetery, where burial will follow with military honors. The family requests no flowers. However, memorial contributions may be made to the Unit Scholarship Fund in memory of Lt. Col. Russell D. Carmody, P.O. Box 43211, Fayetteville, N.C. 28309-3211.
