More detail on this person: CAPT. DUANE J. CRAIG December 2, 1939 - December 1, 2012 Captain Duane J. Craig, age 72, of Black River Falls, WI passed away on December 1, 2012 at Cumberland House Hospice in Crossville, TN. Funeral services will be held on December 6, 2012 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Speck Funeral Home in Livingston followed by a luncheon at the VFW Post. Captain Duane J. Craig was born in Black River Falls, WI on December 2, 1939 the oldest of seven children. Craig enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 5, 1957. After completing jump training at Fort Campbell, KY, he was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, NC. Craig attended Officers Candidate School in November 1966 graduating in May 1967 as a 2nd Lieutenant and was assigned to Airborne Pathfinder Detachment at Fort Benning, GA. Craig attended Helicopter Flight School in Fort Walters, TX and by 1968 was serving the 1st Aviation Brigade in Bien Hoa, Vietnam flying helicopter gunships in support of the U.S., RVN, AUS troops as well as U.S. Navy. Craig was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service and the Air Medal V/V device for Valor. After his tour in Vietnam, Craig commanded an infantry company in the 193rd Infantry Brigade in the Panama Canal zone for 30 months. After attending Officers Advance Course in Fort Benning, GA, Craig was promoted to Captain. In his over 20 years of service in the military, Craig was awarded 61 medals and awards, including 33 awards of the Air Medal. While stationed in the Panama Canal Zone, Craig flew numerous disaster relief missions helping victims of natural disasters in South America. On September 21, 1976, Captain Craig flew the final flight of the CH-54 (SkyCrane) from Mainz-Finthen, Germany to Bremerhaven, Germany. After serving tours in Korea, Vietnam, Germany, and Panama, Craig settled in Michigan and started his second career as a production supervisor at one of the largest manufacturing companies in Michigan. Retiring in Livingston, TN he served as post commander of the local VFW as well as held the office of district commander.
