More detail on this person: I was a member of
Capt. Richard T. Carlson's squadron, HMHT-301,
when his CH-53A went down in an Irvine, CA orange
grove on 20 March 1969. He was pilot on a test
flight of an aircraft that had just been returned
from major work at the North Island maintenance
facility. The accident was due to mechanical
failure of a servo on the main rotor hub assembly.
There were 2 enlisted people who were also
fatalities in this accident. One of them was a
Crew Chief who had also recently returned from a
tour in Vietnam. This information was last updated 05/18/2016
