More detail on this person: Donald Deis Sr. JONESBORO - Chief Warrant Officer 3 Donald John Deis Sr., 84, passed away Sept. 30, 2012. He was born on Jan. 29, 1928 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Earl and Carol Umpenhour. He attended Massanutten Military Academy in Virginia. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War and two tours in Vietnam War. He was assigned as General Westmorland's personal pilot. Mr. Deis was an accomplished trick horse rider. He piloted helicopters, commercial planes and crop dusters. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Cathleen Deis; his children and their spouses, Vickie Deis-Pearson and Joe of Cashiers, S.C., Debbie Deis-Hardison and Dale of Vurgan, N.C., Catherine Carstens and Michael of Jonesboro, Donald J. Deis Jr. and Margaret of Jonesboro and Donna Deis-Stevenson and Roger of King City, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Lelia Byington of Reno, Nev.; two brothers, John Umpenhour of Palm Coast, Fla. and Gene Deis of Tarahote, Ind.; a sister, Jane Fields of Charlotte, N.C.; 18 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ella Faye Deis; a brother, Charles Umpenhour; and a daughter, Marsha Pemberton. A celebration of his life will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Crossroad Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Larry Barnett, Michael Carstens, Kevin Carstens, Donald Deis Jr., Robert Stevenson, Henry Grant and James Wallington.
