More detail on this person: George Rodger Garrety III, 80, of Granbury Texas died suddenly on January 23, 2026. He was born in Springfield Ohio on May 13th, 1945, the son of George Rodger Garrety Jr. and Anna Louise (née Zimmeck) Garrety both of Ohio. George served in the Army as Warrant Officer during the Vietnam Conflict and was decorated with the Flying Cross for his service and received a commendation for bravery. He flew Helicopters and taught Helicopter Pilots to fly. He was honorably discharged from the military in 1969. George loved aviation in all its forms and as such joined the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as an Air Traffic Controller, officially retiring from the FAA after 39 years of government service on May 2, 2005. George was a member of Granbury United Methodist Church in Granbury, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife Judith Ann (née McCreery) Garrety in 2012 and is survived by his six children. Survivors include Joy A. (née Post) Stefan; LeeAnne (née Post) and spouse David Edmonds and her three children Elise, Naomi, and Travis; R. Neal Post and his two children, Carter, and Neema; Alex S. Garrety; Jaeson R. Garrety and his spouse John Yap; and Kevin L. Garrety, his spouse Michelle and their children Jarid, Jakub, and Jaden. He has five great grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his sister Judith and her husband Kenneth Bailey and their children Jennifer and John Bailey. A memorial service will be held sometime this coming summer 2026 at Dallas National Cemetery. The exact date will be decided upon later. In lieu of flowers or cards please send a donation to the American Breast Cancer foundation, or Salvation Army. He was an ardent supporter of both of those charities.
