More detail on this person: Hugh Gibbs November 28, 1943 - April 29, 2021 US Army (Ret.) Major Mariner "Hugh" Gibbs, Jr. (Pee Wee), 77, of Hilton Head Island, SC went to be with the Lord Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Coastal Carolina Medical Center, Hardeeville, SC after an extended illness. Hugh was born November 28, 1943 in Ridgeland, SC to biological parents, the late Mariner H. Gibbs, Sr. and Inez E. Davis. He served a long career in the US Army during the Vietnam War as a pilot before spending 30 years as a helicopter pilot instructor. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Hugh is survived by his wife, Irene Gibbs; dad, Arthur Cooler; daughters, Tonya Tillman (Anthony), Connie Williams (Edwin); sister, Christine Roof (Steve); brother, David Davis (Patsy); grandchildren, Logan McNeal and Lani McNeal; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his momma, Eula Cooler and brothers, Frankie Gibbs and Ray Davis. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Sunday, May 2, 2021 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd, Bluffton. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm, Monday, May 3, 2021 at Coosawhatchie Baptist Church, 3853 Morgandollar Rd, Coosawhatchie followed by burial in Red Dam Baptist Church Cemetery, Hardeeville.
