More detail on this person: As noted earlier, COL (Ret) Herb Hirst passed away on Monday, Feb 16th, 2026. Herb was a Vietnam Veteran, where he served as a 1st Cav UH-1B/C Gunship (Aerial Rocket Artillery) Pilot. Herb also served in the US Army Reserve 364th Civil Affairs Brigade, attaining the rank of Colonel. He was active in the Columbia River Chapter of the Association of the United States Army, the Reserve Officers Association, Military Officers Association of America, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion. Herb also belonged to the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association, and the Distinguished Flying Cross Society. A memorial service is now scheduled for March 2, 2026 at 11 AM at the North Plains Christian Church. The address is 31231 NW Commercial Street, North Plains, Oregon 97133.
