More detail on this person: Michael William Hallock, a proud and dedicated United States Army helicopter pilot, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of honor, service, and love. Born in Burbank, CA, Michael's life was marked by his unwavering commitment to his country, his family, and his passions. Michael served his nation with distinction, dedicating five years to the United States Army, three tours as a decorated helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War, to include three Distinguished Flying Cross, five Purple Heart, and 52 air combat medals. Michael was also awarded three Bronze Star. His unwavering bravery and skill earned him the respect and the dedication of his comrades. Michael's commitment to his fellow veterans continued long after his service, as he remained an active member of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association, forging bonds and sharing memories with those who shared his experiences. Beyond his military service, Michael was a man of many talents and passions. An avid boater and sailor, he found solace and joy on the open waters, a love he cultivated throughout his life. His expertise extended beyond the seas, as he was a gifted woodworker who once owned his own mobile marine repair and consulting business, leaving behind a mark of craftsmanship and dedication in his work. Yet, amidst his adventures and pursuits, Michael's heart belonged to his beloved wife, Rita Holt Hallock. Together for 51 years, their bond was a testament to love, loyalty, and partnership. Living aboard boats for 25 years, they shared a life enriched by shared experiences and cherished memories. Their upcoming 49th anniversary in July would have been another milestone in their enduring love story. In addition to his devoted wife, Michael is survived by his sister, Deborah Finnegan (Niall) of VA; sisters-in-law, Carol and Nancy, and numerous extended family members. His love for his family extended to his furry companions, as he and Rita lovingly raised many rescue dogs over the years, enjoying their mutual companionship and devotion. Michael's love for his Amazon parrot, Sherman, was a unique relationship for 38 years. Michael's legacy will endure through the lives he touched, the memories he created, and the example of service and dedication he leaves behind. As we mourn his passing, let us also celebrate a life well-lived, a man who served his country with pride, loved deeply, and leaves behind a lasting impact on all who knew him. Rest in peace, Michael William Hallock. Your service, your spirit, and your friendship will never be forgotten. Michael will be inurned at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery on Monday, June 3, 2024 at 10AM with military honors.
