More detail on this person: MAJ James Hibbs served two tours in Vietnam as an Army Aviator. He also served with distinction after Vietnam as Active Duty Aviator Advisor during the period 1973-1978 with 120th ARCOM Flight Facility, West Columbia, SC prior to his retirement when Army Reserve Aviation was just getting off the ground. He helped us fly UH-1B model Huey's, U-6A Beaver, U-3A's (Cessna 310) and confiscated drug planes before the Army thought we deserved more modern equipment. He was a great leader, mentor and will be greatly missed.

James Hibbs Jr., 72, of Lexington, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 16, 2012 at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Officiating will be Pastor James Laurence and Pastor Rob Cely. Burial will follow in St. David's Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in his honor to Pets, Inc., PO Box 6394, West Columbia, SC 29171. Mr. Hibbs, beloved husband of Freda A. Hibbs, passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2012. He was the son of the late James Marshall Hibbs, Sr. and Mary Louise Varner Hibbs. He was born in West Virginia, traveled extensively with the U.S. Army. In which he served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a decorated pilot and retired as a major with 21 years of loyal service. Surviving in addition to his wife, Freda A. Hibbs of Lexington, daughter, Sherry Lynn Gib-son (Brad) of Lexington and son, Jeffrey A. Hibbs (Laura) of Lexington; grandchildren, Sara and Rebecca Gibson, Marshall and Emerson Hibbs; sisters, Barbara Richardson (Bill) of CO and Janet Kimbrell (Max) of Estill; brother, George Hibbs (Pat) of Youngstown, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Hibbs. We would like to express our gratitude to Sharonda, Sherry Mae, Melanie, Doris, Becky and staff from Day Break, also the White Team Homebound Care through the VA who helped him through a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.
