More detail on this person: Robert Huebner Retired Army Col. Robert W. Huebner, 70, a highly decorated combat veteran who was post commander at Fort George G. Meade, died Jan. 27 at his home following a long illness with prostate cancer. Col. Huebner was born June 21, 1930, and educated in Shawano, Wis., and attended the University of Wisconsin before being drafted into the Army in 1951. He completed his bachelor's degree in military science in 1963 at the University of Nebraska. He served 31 years in the Army, retiring in December 1982. During his career he graduated from flight school and the infantry advance course, the Command and General Staff College and the Army War College. He held a variety of staff and command assignments. Col. Huebner served in the Korean War and two tours of combat duty in Vietnam. He was post commander at Fort Meade at the time of his retirement. He received numerous awards and decorations, including two Legions of Merit, three Bronze Stars, two Distinguished Flying Crosses, 39 Air Medals and five Vietnamese Crosses of Gallantry. After his retirement, he taught at Anne Arundel Community College and performed volunteer work at Fort Meade. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9083 and Chapter 13 of the Disabled American Veterans. He also performed countless hours of volunteer work at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, where he served on several committees and was chairman of the property committee from 1984 until his death. He also voluntered with the Severna Park Assistance Network. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Maxine M. Huebner; one daughter, Kathrine M. Crawford of New London, Pa.; one son, Richard W. Huebner of Pasadena; two grandchildren; and one brother, Roger C. Huebner of Austin, Minn. Viewing will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Severna Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church, 400 Benfield Road, Severna Park, MD 21146.
