More detail on this person: Captain Michael Powell Kuck, U.S. Army (Ret.), passed away on July 11, 2024, at the age of 79 surrounded by family at his home in Colesville, Maryland. Michael was born December 13, 1944, in Tampa, Florida, but grew up on a farm in Twin Lake, Michigan before joining the United States Army. He dedicated a significant chapter of his life to the service of his country. His military career included service in Vietnam between 1968 and 1970 as a UH-1 Huey pilot where he specialized in Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol insertions and extractions as well as night firefly missions. Upon returning from Vietnam, he attained his Ranger tab and served with the Special Forces as a Scuba Team Commander. His service was recognized with multiple honors, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Aviation Badge, Parachutist Badge, and the Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf Clusters. Michael also flew for the DC National Guard, and had a lengthy career as an Aeronautical Information Specialist with the Federal Aviation Administration. In his free time, a true passion of his was sailing aboard his trimaran, "Waterwings." He loved taking friends and family out on the Chesapeake Bay and sharing his love of sailing with anyone who wanted to join him. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Levan Kuck, a sister and two brothers, and his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered with respect and gratitude as a Vietnam helicopter pilot and patriot who was proud to serve his country, as a friend and brother who was always happy to lend a hand, and especially as a loving husband and father who always valued time with his family. Captain Michael Powell Kuck will be interred on March 10th, 2026, at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
