King, age 66, passed away on June 23, 2014 at
Cox South hospital in Springfield, MO. He was born
in Birmingham, AL on August 5, 1947. James
graduated from S.R. Butler High School in
Huntsville, AL in 1965 and attended Auburn
University before enlisting in the army.
James was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam and a
Silver Star recipient. He continued his military
career with the Kansas Army National Guard and
finally retired with the Florida Army National
Guard in 2002 as a Chief Warrant Officer 4. He
also retired from Alachua County Fl. Public Works
in 2007 where he was employed as the Road
Construction Superintendent.
James was preceded in death by his father, Jack
King, and his mother Kathleen King.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Mechtley King,
his son Eric Harpel, his daughter Jennifer Brawner
and his brother Michael King. He is also survived
by his granddaughter McKenzi Harpel and grandson
Jesse Brawner.
Jim was a loving and wonderful husband, father,
and grandfather. He loved to fish, play golf and
had a love for animals.
