More detail on this person: Frank Koch - Koch liked to take charge Frank Koch will be remembered as a man who loved his family and his community and would do anything to help either of them. Koch, 67, died Sunday after doctors had diagnosed him with leukemia in January. While growing up, Koch lived all over the country, but once he retired from the Navy, he settled in the Pineville community and became a friend to everyone. He met his wife, Mary Jane Reid Koch, when he was looking for a home and she was his Realtor. "I was working on selling him a house, and he was selling himself to me," she said, laughing. The two married, and Koch earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi. Later he oversaw the General Equivalency Diploma program for Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, retiring in June 2006. But retirement didn't slow him down. A few months later he ran unsuccessfully for a seat on the Harrison County School Board. Koch also was active in the Boy Scouts, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and the Pass Christian Knights of Columbus. He was organizing the 50-year class reunion of his high school class at St. Leo Preparatory School in Lakeland, Fla. "Frank was very outgoing as far as the community goes," Mary Koch said. "He always helped everybody out. He was a person who took charge of things." Koch also liked to work in the yard, his wife said, and built a treehouse for their children. The funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. today at Holy Family Catholic Church in Pineville with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. Koch will be buried in the Biloxi National Cemetery with full military honors.
