D. age 74, of Germantown, OH, passed away,
Tuesday, October 14, 2014, surrounded by his
loving family. He was born April 26, 1940, in
Clintwood, VA, to the late Clyde and Goldie Pearl
Mullins. He had a distinguished military career
after joining the U.S. Army in 1959 as a Private
and rose to the rank of Major after becoming a
Paratrooper serving with the 101st Airborne and
the 173rd Airborne. He went to Officer Candidate
School after getting promoted to Sergeant and
after graduation was assigned to Ft. Knox, KY, in
the Armor Division. He was accepted to Flight
School while there and became a helicopter pilot.
He served in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot and
helped command an airfield. After Vietnam he was
assigned to Ft. Lewis Washington and flew several
rescue missions around the Mt. Rainier area. As a
second career he worked as a contract supervisor
at GM ~ Truck & Bus. Obie loved family, fishing,
horses, traveling and golfing with his wife Janet.
He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Janet; his
children, Obie D. (Sandy) Mullins, Jr., Shella
Devon (Lany) Puckett, Tom (Kristy) Reed and Bill
Reed; his sister, Joyce A. Johnson; brothers, Ben
T. (Marie) Mullins, Clarence L. (Squeaky) Mullins,
Lawrence D. (Rachel) Mullins,; and a host of
grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and
nephews. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m.,
Friday, October 17th, at the Dalton Funeral Home,
Corner of State Route 4 & Weaver Rd.,
Germantown, where the Funeral Service will be
held, 10 a.m., Saturday, with Pastor Jim Lykins
officiating. Burial with Full Military Honors
provided by the U.S. Army will be at Highland
Cemetery, Miamisburg. Please share condolences
