More detail on this person: Guy New Obituaries Belleville News-Democrat, The (IL) - Monday, March 7, 2011 Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Guy E. New, 82, of Belleville, Ill., formerly of Florien, La., born Nov. 19, 1928, in Sibley, La., passed away Friday, March 4, 2011, at his residence. Lt. Col. New had a distinguished career in the U.S. Army. He served as a pilot during the Vietnam War, earning the Bronze Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, Legion of Merit and Combat Air Medal with ten oak leaf clusters. Guy graduated from Jennings, Louisiana High School, playing on the Louisiana All State High School football team. He graduated from Oklahoma State University, where he attended on a football scholarship. He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy F. and Lela C., nee Christian, New; a brother, D.O. New; a grandson, Richard Thomas New; and a son-in-law, John C. Loesche. Surviving are his beloved wife of 59 years, Alice L., nee Green, New, whom he married June 2, 1951; four children, Guy T. (Terrie) New of Del Rio, Texas, Charles "Steve" (Wanda) New of Silver Hill, Ala., Jacqueline New Loesche (Bart Bergkoetter) of Belleville, Ill., and Jon "Mike" (Kathy) New of St. James City, Fla.; three grandchildren, Guy C. New, Alice Elizabeth New, and J. Tyler (Lisa) Loesche; one great-grandson, Liam A. New; one sister, Gay (Tom) Sanders of Shreveport, La.; four brothers, Charles (Peggy) New of LaPlace, La., Virgil (Mary) New of Lafayette, La., Louis (Rena) New of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Jon (Connie) New of Wichita Falls, Texas; nieces and nephews; and many good friends. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Fund or to Family Hospice. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com. Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at George Renner and Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, Ill. Funeral: Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at George Renner and Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, Ill., with the Rev. Charles Frank New officiating. Burial with full military honors will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
