More detail on this person: Dennis Edward Sullivan (Major, US Army, Retired), 77, passed away Monday, July 14, 2025 at his home in Greenwood, SC. Born October 8, 1947 in Crestview, Florida, Dennis elected to join the U.S. Army at age 18 in 1966. As an Officer and Helicopter Pilot, he distinguished himself in combat as a gunship pilot in Vietnam. In recognition of his performance, Dennis received the Distinguished Flying Cross (2 awards), the Bronze Star with "V" (for Heroism in Ground Combat), two additional bronze stars, the Air Medal (26 awards), the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star and many other awards. Service continued for several more assignments before retirement. Upon exit from military service, he worked in the Computer Science field as a programmer, analyst and educator for over 25 years, before retiring again. He was a Life member of the Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association and a member of the American Legion Post 20. Dennis is survived by his wife Sherry Sanford Sullivan of 38 years, and son, Theodore "Ted" Redalen Sullivan. His first son, Dennis Allen Sullivan, died in 1990 while serving in the U.S. Army. They are the loves of his life. He is also survived by his sister, Cathy Cohn. There will be no local service.
