More detail on this person: Audis Harold Thornton, Jr passed away on Monday, November 24th, in League City, Texas. He was born on June 3, 1936, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Delia Mae and Audis H. Thornton, Sr. He was 89 years old. Audis was a Captain and helicopter pilot in the United States Army. A military service will be held at the Houston National Cemetery in Houston, TX In January 2026. Details to follow. He will be interred next to his loving wife, Jane D. Thornton. Reception / Open House to follow at 2422 San Sebastian Ct., League City, TX. Audis is survived by his daughter, Tracy Thornton Bontz and son, Michael H. Thornton with wife Lorena; grandchildren, Lindsay Thornton Spencer with husband David, Taylor Bontz with wife Ellie, Morgan Bontz Stolarz with husband Alex, Blake Bontz with wife Courtney and Maleek Thornton; great grandchildren, Dylan Spencer, Paulina Spencer, Collins Everly Bontz and Olivia Jane Bontz. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane D. Thornton. Audis' passion was golf. He played guitar daily and was active in a prison ministry at Angola State Penitentiary for over 40 years while living in Baton Rouge, LA. He graduated from Louisiana State University with a chemical engineering degree and worked for many years as plant manager at a chemical plant in Lake Charles, LA. Audis loved his family and will be sorely missed. A graveside service will be held at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038 on Friday January 23rd, 2026, at 1:45pm.
