Summary: Source indicate to the VHPA that this was the B/1/9th Cav LOH in which WO Smith and his observer died after being hit by ground fire.

Accident Summary:

The observer was burned 60 percent of his body. The aircraft were in a trail formation on a recon mission. There was a garbled radio tranmission heard by the lead aircraft. The aircraft turned and saw the trail aircraft crash, explode and burn. It is assumed the aircraft was shot down by enemy fire.
