Operation RIVER RAIDER I
Gia Binh Province, III Corps, South Vietnam
Location, Rung Sat Special Zone
Description: This search and destroy operation was conducted in the Rung Sat Special Zone along the Long Tau shipping channel leading to the port of Saigon. The 3/47th Inf Bn, 2nd Brigade, 9th Infantry Division is supported by US Navy River Assault Division 91 of River Assault Squadron 9 in an attempt to disrupt enemy activities in a major VC base area. The joint operation is the first by units later to constitute the Mobile Riverine Force and claimed 12 VC KIA while suffering 8 US WIA.
