Quang Tri Province, I Corps, South Vietnam
Location, Quang Tri
Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 30 Mar 1968 issue.
1st Cav Div elements met scattered enemy resistance during missions throughout the division's Jeb Stuart area of operations in Provisional Corps, Vietnam. The 16 enemy killed during the day raised the body count for Operation Jeb Stuart to over 3,000 since the operation began on January 22. Helicopter gunship crews of the 1/9th Air Cav spotted several enemy bunkers while flying toward the Ba Long Valley southwest of Quang Tri City. In ground action cavalrymen of the 1/5th Cav engaged seven fleeing enemy on the sandy coastal plains about nine miles east of Quang Tri City. Four of the Communist soldiers were killed and two detainees were taken in the action. One of the detainees, who was carrying a 9mm pistol, was later determined to be an NVA officer.
