Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 30 Mar 1968 issue.
Units of the 25th Inf Div participating in Operation Quyet Thang killed nine VC and found the bodies of 12 others killed in previous fighting. Shortly after midnight, a patrol from the 3/22d Inf engaged a group of enemy traveling in sampans 9 1/2 miles NNW of Saigon. Four enemy were killed in the brief skirmish. While conducting reconnaissance-in-force operations seven miles northwest of Saigon, soldiers from the 2/12 Inf located 24 warheads and 12 mortars for 122mm rockets. As the mission continued, the infantrymen found the bodies of 11 VC killed in previous encounters. They also captured 2700 pounds of rice and three 60mm mortar rounds. Reconnaissance-in-force operations 23 miles northwest of Saigon netted elements of the 2/14th Inf 24 rifle grenades, 75 60mm mortar charges, 14 RPG boosters, two 60mm mortar rounds, two automatic rifles and 75 VC gas masks along with an assortment of enemy supplies. Division units treated 920 Vietnamese patients in four MEDCAPs.
