Description: The following is an edited version from the weekly Vietnam Communique column in the 10 Aug 1968 issue. The 1st Avn Bde killed 303 enemy during a week of heavy fighting, flying support for ground units. Helicopter gunship crews of the 175th AHC, 13th CAB and 235th AWC, 307th CAB supported elements of the 7th ARVN Div in a reconnaissance mission six miles NW of Vinh Long. Flying close overhead fire support, the 175th reported killing 15 VC while the 235th reported six more enemy killed. The ARVN infantrymen later swept the area and confirmed the kills for the chopper gunners. In addition, the 175th reported killing 33 enemy, bringing the total to 54. They also sank 10 sampans and destroyed 16 structures.
