Description: The 361st Escort Company's unit history states that the Panther and the 57th AHC's aircraft received numerous hits from different types of AA weapons while supporting a split reconnaissance team. One of the Panther co-pilots, WO1 Larry Harper, received a round in his armor chest protector that also lit a pack of matches he had in the front pocket. The aircraft was filled with smoke and caused a near-IFR condition inside. That aircraft received nine hits. A 57th AHC UH-1H received fire, killing one crew member and wounding another, in a second attempt at extraction between Air Force bombings of the area. The Panther stand-by team at Camp Holloway was scrambled to reinforce the friendly forces. Finally, all eight members of the RT were extracted after a day-long battle.
